Mama's neighborhood
Mama is always found in a neighbourhood worth discovering. Here, Mama welcomes you to the Porte de Versailles and Parc Georges-Brassens area. Between Sunday flea markets, second-hand book dealers and urban vineyards planted on the site of the capital’s former horse market, this is a quieter, more local side of Paris, where you’re more likely to bump into neighbours than tourists: exactly the kind of hidden gem Mama loves to uncover.
Culture & Heritage
Parc Georges-Brassens tells the story of the neighbourhood all on its own. Built on the site of Paris’s former horse market, it has preserved its historic market hall and bell tower, now surrounded by a small urban vineyard. Just on the edge of the park, Le Monfort Théâtre brings an ambitious programme of contemporary dance and circus. And for curious minds, the nearby Institut Pasteur opens the doors to its museum, dedicated to the work of the renowned scientist.
Food & Drink
Around Rue du Commerce and the park, the neighbourhood treats pedestrians to friendly bistros, wine bars and healthy spots, drawing a far more local crowd than tourists. Expect simple, generous food in a genuine neighbourhood atmosphere with nothing to prove.
Shopping & Souvenirs
On Sundays, head to the second-hand and antiquarian book market beneath the Baltard market halls in Parc Georges-Brassens: a favourite with collectors and curious passers-by alike. A ten-minute walk away, the Porte de Vanves flea market continues the treasure hunt with its vintage finds and antique dealers. For more classic shopping, Rue du Commerce is a safe bet for a leisurely wander with no set itinerary.
Getting Around
Porte de Versailles station, right outside the hotel, is served by Metro Line 12, which has been running since 1910. In just a few stops, it takes you to Montparnasse-Bienvenüe, with connections to Lines 4, 6 and 13, then on to Concorde and Madeleine, right in the heart of Haussmannian Paris.
It’s also the terminus of Tram T2, which runs along the Seine all the way to La Défense, as well as a stop on T3a, which loops around the south of the city to Porte de Vincennes.
